Cancelled.

Wanted to just let those favorite few of you out there to know that my comic book, Crickets, has been cancelled due to changes made by the major comics distributor that effectively made it impossible to continue in the comic book format. Crickets #3 will come out in some DYI form in the next couple months...after that, I dont know exactly. While I am really bummed about this, as I feel I never even really got started on it, I appreciate all the people who supported it when it was coming out. Thanks. To the future.

there's a slow dirge coming out of a long-box in minnesota, joining the throngs with other wails of blog-spotters, international, spotting this dark demise.

what world is this!!

luckily, our man in charge will follow his nose, we'll trust him, yes. in the face of the almighty, such works will not go unseen. the picture above makes me shiver, par for the course, hammy snark 'em. soon you'll recieve glowing letters, from all strains of youth, with well-wishes and expectant gleams. life will go on, if you can believe it.

This is bad news Sammy, but I'll support Crickets in whatever form you put it out. I was really enjoying the series. Bum deal.

Sammy, without wanting to pry, have Diamond actually specifically said that they won't take it, or are you assuming that it won't hit the benchmark based on previous issues sales?

They've said that they will make exceptions, and I suspect that a critically acclaimed book like yours that only comes out annually is not the sort of book they're looking to shed.

Really sorry to hear about it. Loved Crickets and Or Else. Well, at least I am very happy to own the first two issues. Hope you will continue Black Death in another way.

crickets is/was my favorite comic coming out these last two years. I'm sorry. I hope you can find a solution that still involves staples. You have a great book there.

thanks everybody for the nice words. as of right now, I think crickets will continue as a low run mini comic with good production values(I am looking into keeping the two color insides, and silkscreening covers). will it get to issue #100? maybe. ...a big part of me loves the format of having everything together.

This totally sucks. I really enjoyed Crickets and love the magazine serial format. It's just going to be even harder for good work to get seen. It's Diamond and the industry in general turning its back on small press comics in a big way.

This leaves basically two places to get comics that aren't published by the handful of publishers who are able to get distribution: online and at cons.

Two-color is pretty spendy if you're going off-set, and a small run makes it even spendier. and it would nice if you could keep it affordable. The only way I was able to do this with my own two-color mini was because I worked at an off-set printer at the time. Silkscreening the whole thing seems insane to me.

Digital printing seems to me to be the less classy, more affordable option, and it still looks pretty good, even though you can't get your exact PMS colors, but it could mean the difference between having to charge 8 bucks and 4 bucks for the book.

Money is an object for most of us who buy comics, and however much you might feel that you're producing something that's worth it, if people can't afford it, they'll never see it.
